City Ramparts

Remains of City Ramparts can be seen on way to House of Virgin Mary. Early City Ramparts were built to police Ephesus during Greek era. As many other Greek cities Ephesus was also surrended by city ramperts. This strong city walls were built during the period of Lysimakhos founder of Ephesus City. There were towers, some of which can still be seen, greek archers used to wait on towers to protect Ephesus city. These hellenistic ramparts used to cover the area between the port of Ephesus and the Pion Mountain, on the slopes of which was the Grand Theatre located shortly walls used to built to protect heart of Ephesus city.

Latter City Ramperts were built during the Byzantine period. Today some tracking tour take people to see ramperts of Ephesus city.
